阿芙洛狄忒（Aphrodite）是希腊神话中的爱与美之女神，对应于罗马神话中的维纳斯。她是奥林巴斯十二主神之一，是爱情和女性美的象征。她是众神仰慕的对象，据说神王宙斯也追求过她，被她拒绝后强行把她嫁个了丑陋的火神。阿佛洛狄忒与高大威猛的战神私通，生下了小爱神厄洛斯和其他子女。她还跟美男子阿多尼斯相爱。希腊和罗马神话中流传着大量她的风流韵事。阿芙洛狄忒的名字Aphrodite的意思是“水泡中产生的”，希腊词根aphro表示水泡。因为传说当克洛诺斯阉割乌拉诺斯后，乌拉诺斯的精血洒落在大海上，产生了很多泡沫，阿芙洛狄忒就从泡沫中诞生。从她的名字Aphrodite产生了不少跟性爱相关的词汇，如aphrodisia（性欲）、aphrodisiac（春药）。四月April也是以她的名字命名的。
