词源记忆法
这是美国通用汽车公司（General Motors Corporation，GM）-位名叫D.S.Harder的职员于1936年杜撰的，但这个词一直到20世纪50年代才逐渐通用起来。从构词法上来看，该词系由automatic和operation缩合而成，而automatic则源自希腊语automatos‘self-acting’。Harder用automation表示“自动操作”，但如今automation更多用以指“自动化”。动词形式to automate（自动化）系由automation逆构而成。
