yell, cry, exclaim, scream, shout, shriek

这六个动词共同的意思是“叫喊”。它们的区别在于：

1.scream多指儿童、妇女由于痛苦、恐惧、愤怒或欢乐时突然发出的尖叫声,也可指车辆、汽笛、机器等尖叫。

2.shout指大声说、大声叫或高喊,可表示喜、怒、哀、乐等各种表情; 也可表示提出警告或引起别人注意而大声叫嚷,多指男人的喊叫。例如:

I can hear you all right, there is no need to shout.我听得见你说话,用不着喊。

Why are you shouting?你为什么大喊大叫?

Don't shout at me.不要对我叫喊。

3.cry指大声呼喊,常表示惊讶、兴奋、惊恐,也指痛苦地哭喊,有时只表示一种感情,并不表示任何思想,有时是大声地说话。例如:

He cried with pain when the dentist pulled his tooth out.当牙医给他拔牙时,他疼得叫起来。

They heard someone crying out for help.他们听到有人大声呼救。

He cried the good news all over the village.他大声喊着把好消息告诉全村的人。

He cried that he had found the key.他大声叫喊找到了钥匙。

He cried her name in vain.他徒劳地叫着她的名字。

4.shriek指在极端恐惧、痛苦、愤怒或狂笑时发出的更为刺耳的尖叫。例如:

He shrieked with pain.他痛得尖叫。

I shrieked with terror.我吓得尖叫起来。

She shrieked in alarm when she saw the mouse.她看见老鼠时惊恐地尖声喊叫起来。

5.yell常指求援、鼓励时的呼叫; 也可用来指由于精神错乱、激怒、恐惧、悲痛、高兴等原因而发出的可怕的、发音不清楚的叫声,多指男人的大嚷大叫。例如:

She yelled out for help, but no one came.她高声呼救,但没有人来。

We yelled together for our team.我们一起为我们的球队呐喊鼓劲。

The company commander yelled out orders.连长大声地发出命令。

6.exclaim则指因高兴、痛苦、惊讶而呼喊,比一般说话的音调稍高,但不如cry的音调高,感情色彩较强烈。例如:

He exclaimed how bitter his fate was.他叫喊道他的命运多悲惨啊。

“What!”he exclaimed.“什么!”他喊道。

They exclaimed against such oppression.他们大声疾呼反对这样的压迫。

这些动词的共同含义是“喊”或“叫”。

cry一般指因恐惧、痛苦、惊奇等而喊叫。

shout指有意识地高声喊叫，常用于提出警告、发命令或唤起注意等。

exclaim多指因高兴、愤怒、痛苦、惊讶等突发感情而高声喊叫。

roar指发出大而深沉的声音、吼叫或咆哮。

scream指因恐具、快乐或痛苦而发出的尖叫声。

shriek指因惊恐、痛苦等或其它感情而发出比scream更为尖锐、刺耳的叫声。

yell多指求援、鼓励时的呼叫。也可指因外界因素刺激而发出尖厉声音。

call指大声说话或喊叫，以引起某人的注意。
